Pork Chops with Apples

Pork Chops with Apples
Yield:   4 servings
Cook Time:   6-8 hours
Tips:   1-2 more apples may be added, if desired.
Suggestion:   Delicious served with a side of rice or bread and a vegetable or salad.
Pork is always delicious when accompanied by the flavor of apples. It's not uncommon to see pork chops served with a side of applesauce, and there are many pork recipes that use apples as one of the main ingredients, such as with Pork Normandy, Pork with Apple Cider and Pork Chops with Apple Cider Glaze.
This Pork Chops with Apples recipe celebrates pork and apples in one of the easiest ways possible, with the help of a slow cooker (also sometimes referred to as crock pots). Slow cookers not only eliminate the need to prepare dinner at the end of the day, they cook meat slowly, allowing the meat to tenderize while it soaks up the juices produced by all the ingredients in the pot.

All it takes to prepare this dish is to create layers of apple slices and pre-browned pork chops in the slow cooker, finishing with slices of apples on the top. Sprinkle with a little nutmeg, salt and pepper and top with a few pats of butter, then close the lid! The apples will produce wonderful juices that will tenderize the pork chops, while adding natural savory sweet flavor. Be sure to reserve the juice in the crock pot, because you'll be using it to drizzle over the tops of each serving. If you'd like a serve this dish with a few extra apple slices, simply add slices from 1 or 2 more apples.
