Appetizers & Snacks

Appetizer and snack recipes (also referred to as finger food, party food, hors d'oeuvres and canapés) are almost always easy to make and can be made with almost any food imaginable. They can be mild or spicy, hot or cold,
made with meat or vegetarian style, and in many cases require little or no refrigeration. Appetizers can be prepared in endless ways, and can be served for most any occasion, whether it be a holiday, party or social event, and can cater to a small group or a large crowd. They can also simply be made as tasty snacks for your family or friends anytime. Some appetizers can even be served as a side dish to a main course or as the main course itself. Below you will find a collection of my personally tested favorite appetizer and snack recipes that have been a huge hit at parties, holidays and other events. Artichoke Frittata
Petite baked appetizer squares made with egg, cheddar cheese, marinated artichoke hearts, green onion, parsley and crumbled crackers.
Baked Crostini
Miniature slices of toasted crunchy bread seasoned with olive oil and garlic, used for garnishing with an assortment of toppings.
Barbecue Meatballs
Mini seasoned ground beef meatballs cooked in a simple, quick, easy and tasty sauce. Serve with toothpicks for easy taking & sauce dipping.
Black Bean & Corn Salsa
Black beans, kernel corn, tomatoes, red onion, red bell pepper, diced green chiles and chopped fresh cilantro in a freshly squeezed lime juice dressing.
Broccoli Puffs
Puffy random-shaped morsels made with finely chopped broccoli in a light batter, fried to crispy golden and served with a creamy, tangy dipping sauce.
Broccoli with Hollandaise Sauce
Sauce Crisp-tender broccoli florets served with a creamy and delicious hollandaise sauce flavored with a hint of fresh lemon.
Cheese & Garlic Breadsticks
Light and fluffy breadsticks with a garlic and parmesan coating. Great as an appetizer or bread side for a main course.
Cheese & Sausage Croissant Bites
Link sausage wrapped in croissants brushed with melted butter and filled with Parmesan cheese and oregano, then cut into bite-size mini appetizers.
Cheese & Sausage Wonton Flowers
Sausage, jack and cheddar cheese, ripe olives, diced red bell pepper and ranch dressing in crispy baked wonton flowers.
Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce
Tender skewered mini strips of marinated grilled chicken breast served with a mildly spicy peanut dipping sauce.
Chicken Strips with Honey Mustard Sauce
Mini strips of seasoned chicken breast coated and fried to a golden brown and served with a delightful  honey mustard dipping sauce.
Chili Cheese Bites
A great finger food for brunch or as a side dish for breakfast! Egg, Monterey Jack and cottage cheeses with diced mild green chiles.

Chili Cheese Balls
Mini bite-size cheese ball appetizers made with Monterey jack cheese, mozzarella cheese & cream cheese, seasoned with chili powder, Dijon, garlic & Worcestershire.
Chili Con Queso
A meatless cheese dip flavored with chili, garlic, jalapeno and assorted spices. Great with homemade tortilla chips or packaged chips and/or fresh veggies.
Corn Dog Bites
Beef, chicken or turkey weenies, sliced and coated with a cornmeal batter, then deep-fried until golden brown. Crispy on the outside and tender, hot and steamy on the inside!
Crab Croquettes with Cocktail Sauce
Petite crispy fried panko coated balls made with crab meat, green onions, egg and more panko crumbs, served with a delicious cocktail sauce.
Crab Crostini
Easy and elegant! Miniature bread slices topped with a mixture of flaked crab, red bell pepper, parsley, chives, and seasoning, broiled until golden and warm.
Crab Puffs
Petite light and airy puffs made with crabmeat, cheddar cheese, green onions, flour and seasonings.
Cream Cheese Wontons
Crispy fried wontons with a cream cheese filling flavored with hints of minced green onion and water chestnuts. Served with a tasty dipping sauce.
Crispy Crab Wontons with Avocado Creme
Crispy fried wonton wrappers topped with a light crab salad and melted cheddar cheese, served with topping of Avocado Crème.
Croissants
Buttery light and flaky crescent-shaped French pastries. Great for breakfast with butter, jam and/or preserves, as a bread side with main dishes, or as bread appetizers.
Deviled Eggs
Hard boiled eggs filled with a smooth and creamy seasoned egg yolk mixture made with mustard & mayonnaise, topped with paprika or cayenne pepper.
Festive Nachos
Tortilla chips served with a festive mixture of ground beef, salsa, black beans, avocado, tomato, ripe olives and onions topped with melted cheddar cheese.
Flaky Cheese Triangles
Light and flaky petite cheese-falvored pastry triangles made with cheddar cheese, flour, butter and a touch of cayenne pepper, brushed with an egg for a pretty glistening effect.
Fresh Herb Yogurt Dip
A healthy dip made with yogurt, fresh dill & fresh parsley, lemon juice, lemon zest and garlic. Delicious with fresh vegetables.
Garbanzo Balls with Tahini Sauce
Petite balls made with garbanzo beans (chickpeas), lemon juice, eggs, garlic and herbs & spices served with Tahini dipping sauce.
Green Chile Canapes
Mini French bread slices topped with a spread made with diced green chiles, Monterey jack and/or cheddar cheese and red pepper sauce topped with colorful paprika.
Guacamole
Avocadoes with sour cream and an assortment of spices and flavors blended to a creamy texture. Great as a dip or as a garnish for main dishes.
Hummus with Baked Pita Chips
An easy and healthy homemade hummus recipe made with garbanzo beans, tahini, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil with a homemade recipe for baked pita chips.
Jalapeno Artichoke Dip
Parmesan and cream cheese with bits of pickled jalapenos and artichoke hearts. Great with tortilla chips, crackers, pita crisps and fresh vegetables.
Lettuce Wraps
Grilled Satay Chicken breast, crisp veggies & Coconut Curry Noodles wrapped up in tender butter lettuce leaves. Served with 3 sauces for dipping.

Parmesan Broccoli Balls
Parmesan cheese, chopped broccoli flowerets, diced onions and bread stuffing in small bite-size balls, baked to golden brown.
Pepperoni Cheese Twists
Soft and fluffy garlic-seasoned breadsticks stuffed with diced pepperoni, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese and coated with melted butter and Parmesan cheese.
Pesto Pepperoni Cheese Pinwheels
Soft and puffy bread snacks featuring swirl designs, filled with fresh pesto, a blend of six Italian-style cheeses and pepperoni slices, baked until golden.
Polynesian Meatballs
Hawaiian-style meatballs made with lean ground beef, water chestnuts, rolled oats and spices, served with a sweet and tart Polynesian sauce.
Porcupine Meatballs in Chili Sauce
Meatballs made with seasoned lean ground beef, rice, diced celery, onions, green bell pepper and egg, cooked in a sauce made withtomato juice, chili powder and seasonings.
Red Potato Salad Cups
Boiled small red potatoes, hallowed out and filled with a tangy red potato salad made with bacon, fresh herbs, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard and olive oil.
Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
Garbanzo beans and tahini blended with roasted red peppers, herbs and spices. Great with naan or pita bread, pita chips, crackers and fresh vegetables.
Sausages with Mustard Cream
Grilled smoked or other sausages cut into bite-size pieces and served with a tangy and flavorful mustard cream sauce made with Dijon, cream & horseradish.
Sesame Chedddar Turnovers
Seasoned cheddar cheese filling wrapped in a flaky cream cheese dough, topped with sesame seeds and baked to golden brown.
Sesame Cheese Twists
Quick and easy flaky breadsticks flavored with cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, sesame seeds and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Smashed Red Potatoes
Roasted baby red potatoes, partially smashed, drizzled with a mixture of butter, garlic and fresh thyme leaves, then roasted again until browned and crispy.
Spicy Apple-Glazed Meatballs
Mini ground beef meatballs seasoned with garlic and cayenne pepper, tossed with a glistening sauce made with apple juice, soy sauce, ground ginger and cayenne pepper.
Swedish Meatballs
Meatballs made with ground beef & ground pork & seasonings in a creamy and delicious sauce made with a roux, beef stock and heavy cream (or sour cream, if desired).
Tapenade
A dip or paste made with chopped kalamata (Greek) olives, green olives, capers, garlic and olive oil. Fabulous served with baked crostini, sliced crusty bread, pita chips, or raw vegetables.
Tortilla Chips with Salsa
Light, crispy & golden home-fried tortilla chips with a quick and easy homemade salsa that nobody will be able to resist and won't stop until they're all gone!
Turkey Artichoke Cheese Dip
A warm and creamy dip made with chopped bits of smoked turkey, marinated artichoke hearts, green onion and Parmesan and cream cheeses.

Tips for a better cooking experience:
  • Plan your meals a day or more in advance (planning meals for the week is even better)

  • Get all your ingredients out before you start (just like you see on the cooking shows)

  • Stock your kitchen with the right tools - most tools are inexpensive but very valuable!

  • Stock your kitchen with storage containers so you can store your leftovers for later

  • Keep a back-up stock of food items you use most frequently in your pantry

  • Allow yourself to experiment a little - this is the way great recipes are created!
